Oftentimes patients requesting neck recontouring also consider facelift surgery to rejuvenate the face. A skilled surgeon easily combines these procedures. Doctors use a light general anesthesia with long-acting local anesthetics to minimize postoperative pain. The surgery begins with the injection of the anesthetic. Surgeons liposuction out the extra fat in the neck and then makes a minimal and very short incision underneath the chin by using an endoscope. The doctor can hide the 1/8-inch long incisions in the crease behind each ear while creating neck definition. These incisions heal very well and are quite inconspicuous. Through the small incision under the chin, the doctor re approximates the platysma muscles together with sutures, correcting the banding which has occurred in the aging neck. Doctors reinforce the muscles to provide long-lasting results. The endoscope creates a tunnel from behind one ear to the other under the jawbone. Then, the surgeon makes a very special gentle corset-like stitch from behind one ear, down around the neck and back up behind the other ear. This helps tighten the neck, eliminate banding and creates a more pleasing transition from the chin to the upper neck. Finally, surgeons re-drape the skin over the neck and close the incisions with the finest plastic surgical suture technique.
